Caregivers – Senior Living Article – May 2020

Union Senior Living May 2020
Bringing “HOPE to the CAREGIVER” through EDUCATION, RESOURCES, AND
VISITING COMPANIONS
One Source Empowering Caregivers (OSEC)  was founded in 2014 in Grass Valley as a
source of hope, support and to improve quality of life for Caregivers and their loved
ones. Our goal is to provide cost-free, non-medical support while they remain at home
in a safe and healthy environment.
As Nevada County moves into Level Three for COVID re-opening, OSEC is now
accepting appointments for visits with any interested families caring for a loved one at
home. Please call give us a call at 530.205-9514 for information and to let us know
about your caring situation. New office hours Tuesday and Thursdays, 10am to 4:30pm.
If you want to come by and say HI in person, which we would love, masks and gloves
available here!
The latest OSEC COVID protocols on our website empoweringcaregivers.org
support Volunteer Care Specialists returning soon to visit their long-missed families with
the very best practices to keep you and your families SAFE.
OSEC has links and referrals to local resources, updates on grocery deliveries, and
more.
Welcome to our new Volunteer Coordinator, Katherine Doolittle. Check out our website
to read her bio!
NEEDED: NEW VOLUNTEER CARE SPECIALISTS to GIVE ‘CARE-FREE’ RESPITE to 24/7
CAREGIVERS
While OSEC’s Volunteer Respite Care Specialists do not provide medical care
—companion care only — they are trained on a wide range of issues that they may
encounter during the course of their volunteer companion visits in the home.
OSEC Training for volunteers has been revised down to a 1 day event. If you, or if you
can help recruit by calling some of your friends, we would love to have 20 new
applicants for volunteers by September 1st! Let us know if you have any ideas to help
with recruitment!
NEXT VOLUNTEER TRAINING: Saturday, September 12, 9:00am – 4:30pm
Elizabeth Rawson, MA, Facilitator for The Caregiver Advantage, Education and Training
for caregivers, will partner with OSEC in starting a Training class in the fall. As the
family caregiver with your loved one at home, call OSEC to be a part of the next set of
classes.

An “open house” session September 14th gives everyone a chance to have a 3 hour
introduction to OSEC services and TCA as an invitation to the visualization/relaxation we
will do every session with a process theme to support self-care with playful materials.
Save the date to join us!! Call us for options on respite for your loved one.
