Katherine Doolittle is an old friend to One Source – Empowering Caregivers. She served on the board of directors both in 2016 (when she was very involved organizing both the first volunteer training and development of the training manual) and in 2019. Some of our volunteers over the years were recruited by her.
Now she returns to OSEC as the new Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteer recruiting, coordinating and oversight is not new to Katherine. She recruited hundreds of volunteers annually at the University of California San Francisco for programs she developed as part of increasing community connections for the University. She retired from the UC system to take a position as Community Outreach Manager on behalf of organ and tissue donation for Sacramento and 11 surrounding counties. There, she fell in love with her 150 volunteers, all active and well trained to provide education about donation in their communities. It was also here that Katherine discovered that first responders had little to no education about donation across the country. She then produced a 33-minute training video that was utilized in 22 states. Cal State offered a free C.E.U. for first responders who watched it and took the follow-up quiz.
Katherine was having a hard time retiring and had just started looking for something part time that gave her meaningfull experiences. “Learning that Carolyn was seeking a OSEC Volunteer Coordinator gave me goosebumps. I knew it was a perfect fit. Carolyn and I both believe whole-heartedly in OSEC’s mission and we both want to make volunteering with us an easy, joyful and inclusive experience for all. Donna Raibley, OSEC’s Founder, created this nonprofit to bring hope and relief to others. That culture remains and I am thrilled to work with such a loving team. I am also excited about increasing access to the care and devotion available to our local families desperately in need of respite support through expanding our volunteer base.
